Stichting4life

VISION

Stichting4Life empowers children and their mothers in the Kibera slum in Nairobi, Kenya to create a better future for themselves. Our approach is all about giving opportunities. We give children the opportunity to go to school and eventually get a job. And their mothers the opportunity to earn a fair wage. So they can create a secure and healthy foundation to change their own lives and the lives of their children. We believe every child and mother deserves this opportunity to break cycle of poverty.

MISSION

Stichting4Life developed a unique concept for children and their mothers in the Kibera slum. We give them the opportunity to create a better future. An opportunity that they have to grab with both hands. The concept is based on four pillars:

The concept is based on four pillars:

  • Education for children: from school to job
  • Support for orphans through education & housing
  • Jobs with a fair wage for mothers
  • Products made in Kenya sold in the Netherlands

WORKING METHOD

To break the cycle of poverty we need an integral, sustainable approach. We offer chances to motivate children and mothers, but don’t create dependence by simply giving money. We believe that living conditions can only be improved in the long term by investing in the children in Kenya. But just investing in education is not enough. These children need a secure and healthy home situation where they can concentrate on their schoolwork. If they live under bad hygienic circumstances, don’t eat enough, are not stimulated or even abused, education does not have the desired effect.

PROJECTS KENYA

Stichting4Life supports the poorest children and their mothers in the slums in Kenya (families with a monthly income of max 20 euro). For these families everything is about surviving. And it’s these families that grab every opportunity with both hands. Therefore we give them the opportunity to create a better future for themselves.

Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.

Mahatma Gandhi

Education

Children that go to school have the future! Therefore we believe it’s important that as many children in the Kibera slum as possible can go to school. We have setup several initiatives. A minimum of 1.260 children will to go school in 2017.

Export

Most of the jewellery and Kikoy towels made in the workshop are sold in the Netherlands under the name Sieraden4Life. The profit flows back into the education projects.

Employment

The unemployment rate in Kenya is high: >40%. Certainly for people who live in the slums. Work means income. And that means mothers can take care of themselves and their children

Support orphans

Sometimes mothers are too sick to take care of their children or they pass away. Stichting4Life supports these children. We take care of housing and make sure they finish school. Currently 7 children are helped in this way. One of these children is George. His mother died in 2008.

Be the change. You want to see in the world.
